About
The Raw Vegan lifestyle consists of foods containing no meat, no
dairy, and nothing cooked over 115 degrees (cooking foods over
115 degrees kills most of the foods vital nutrients). In keeping
with this formula, you are guaranteed to be nourishing your body
with all of the complete vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that
delicious raw foods have to offer.
I first went raw 2 years ago when I started noticing that the food
I was eating was not nourishing me. Even though I had been a
vegetarian for 12 years I was not very energized, had some
health issues, and was never satisfied after eating a meal. Sure I
ate lots of vegetables, but they were mostly over-cooked and
topped with my addiction of choice, spray butter! I put spray
butter on everything!! It wasn’t until I realized years later that
spray butter was mostly chemicals; chemicals that taste great
but were slowly destroying my body and robbing me of vital
nutrients. In fact, most of the food I ate was full of chemicals,
and processed. I was following a very popular diet at the time so
I thought that the food was o.k. as long as it was acceptable on
the diet. Boy was I wrong!
It was around the same time that I had this realization that my
mom had to take a raw foods class for school. As soon as she
described it to me I knew that this was the way I was supposed
eat. It made total sense immediately. Not cooking your food =
living nutrients, enzymes, and minerals, which in turn
completely feeds my body. I immediately signed up for a raw
foods class.
I learned a lot from that first class, but when I came home I was
totally lost. I didn’t know what the food was supposed to look or
taste like. I wasn’t familiar with most of the terminology in the
recipe book or any of the techniques used to prepare the food.
It took a lot of trial and error before I got the hang of it. What I
did know was that as soon as I started to eat more raw I felt
fantastic, looked healthier, my health issues seemed to
disappear, I had tons of energy, an elevated mood, and lost
weight dramatically. I never looked back. And I never had to
adhere to a “diet” again.
